£2.5 million Youth Centre in Shoeburyness, Essex. Completed in July 2010.
Camal Architects worked with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council & Connexions' officers to put together a successful bid for funding from the Big Lottery Fund ‘myplace’ scheme.
The design of the new building responds to the form, mass and scale of the adjacent buildings. The materials for the building have also been chosen to produce a dynamic and exciting facility for young people.
Solar thermal panels, rainwater harvesting and air source heat pumps provide hot water and space heating in the winter and cooling during the summer. These renewable energy strategies will form part of the educational function of the building. The building has been designed to achieve a “Very Good” BREEAM rating
