Repair and refurbishment of a historic timber framed house outside of Bury St Edmunds
CAMAL architects worked closely with traditional oak carpenters and timber frame experts to ensure historically accurate repairs and material specifications were adopted during the repair of this large blacksmith's cottage.
The entire house needed to be temporarily propped whilst extensive repairs were carried out to the timber sole plate and gable wall. Repairs were kept to a minimum to enable the retention of the original wattle and daub infil which had survived in some areas. Following the frame repairs sheeps wool insulation was inserted into the walls and traditional lath and lime plaster were used to render the property.
