£90,000 refurbishment and reconfiguration of an existing common room at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

CAMAL Architects were approached by the centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) to produce design proposals and a feasibility appraisal to improve the layout of this small common room, and to enable the space to be used for seminars and informal lectures.

The project group within CMS were Professor Stephen Hawking; Professor Malcolm Perry; Professor Neil Turok and Dr Paul Shellard. The space was reorientated and a wave form ceiling was utilised to unify the space and provide acoustic attenuation. The  walls were covered with black boards to aid inpromptu discussion and a bespoke lectern was provided to enable lectures to take place.
